The Macbook Pro is equipped with DDR3 VRAM: http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Apple-MacBook-Pro-15-Notebook-Santa-Rosa.4038.0.html
As you can see from the test below the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 VRAM is far less dramatic than anticipated : http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/262/7
Hi again everybody :) To Hanneke - Thanks dude :) But unforunately, I don´t feel like getting a 17´´ monster, I mean it´s not as if I mind working out, but I´d rather stick to the gym :) I need it portable if possible - how unfortunate there´re no 15 inch units available (+8700 GT I mean). I suppose it´s something to do with the VPU form-factor though. Anyway :) What about any 2600 XT notebooks? Haven´t any appeared yet? I´ve been trying to find some high and low, but to no avail. I know it´s a brand new card, but... Hm, Inspirons and XPS-es :) I checked on some yesterday and I can´t say I was particularly impressed. Flat out, I think Dell messed it up bigtime (the 1520/1720 ones) It seems I could either get a G1S right off or wait for a 15´´ MSI GX, but it´s not much of a choice as it is (MSIs ain´t exactly available yet) Anyway, if anyone can pinpoint even a single 2600 XT one, I´ll be a happy puppy (I´m sending a König-Pilsner twelver and a personal thank you note to anyone who finds one) :)
As far as I know, the Asus G1s is the only notebook in the 15.4 inch field that has been equiped with a videochip + GDDR3. Maybe you should check out the 17" books, e.g. the dell xps series. http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/notebooks_best?c=de&cs=dedhs1&l=de&s=dhs There have been rumours that the new model xps M1730 will be released soon with a faster videochip than the 7950 gtx.....you might as well wait for that ;). Other options might be the Asus G2s or the Toshiba x200 ( has an 8700 GT).
Hi everybody :) First, excuse me for writing in English, but I can´t really speak German well :) I am willing to buy a notebook (2 Ghz. Intel core 2 duo + 8600 GT (ddr3) or 2600 XT + at least 2 Gb RAM + min. 120 Gb HDD)... but I was pretty amazed to find out that a lot of 8600M GT cards had been equipped with DDR2 (Acer 5920 comes to mind). The same goes for Radeon 2600 XT - in most of the cases the description says ``Ati 2600`` or ``Ati HD 2600`` only, so I can´t really figure it out whether the videochip is an XT version or not as it is. And I definitely don´t want to waste money on such a notebook, featuring either of these cards, 8600 GT DDR2 or Ati 2600 no-XT version, no matter which one. The point is that the performance of such a video chip (either of them) would drop, or rather, plummet to the one of a fast, but previous generation card (say 7700/7600 or even lower, for that matter). I´d really appreciate it if someone would indicate any notebooks, featuring 8600 GT DDR3 (the only one I´ve managed to find out so far is Asus G1S) cards, or alternatively, with Ati 2600 XT versions (even better)
