I think you are jumping to conclusions based on a single laptop with no equal to compare to. Look at the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 which has AMD and Intel versions, it beats intel version in the wifi test and load test, and losses idle test by only 2%. It's idle average power consumption is lower too

Because yes, benchmarks with pushing the system to its limit(s) will surely show how Intel is "horrible" in power consumption but, just as you said, who in the world besides NikoB is pushing their CPU at 100% load on all cores 24/7/365?

Now if they, Intel, manage to make that same to actual desktop and laptop consumers CPU... Perfect 👏 I don't think that anyone would mind having hefty Wattage (yet not much higher than AMD tbh) being used without thermal throttling or any performance loss due to increased temps. And for laptops they are already pretty nicely improving lately with efficiency cores but that's still too early to judge except what you said about AMD on battery power is oftentimes being even worse than Intel.

Sorry to hear about your mobo issues. If you are worried about the 12th gen (no idea about the current 13th gen yet so can't comment on it) you don't have to be; generational jump from 12th over 11th was insane in terms of raw performance, both in desktops and laptops something that can be only compared with that 7th to 8th gen jump (especially in laptops).

And no matter what AMD evangelists and PR machinery says about how super-hyper-mega-ultra-efficient their CPUs are, that's simply not the case, in fact Intel is more efficient when you look at the whole picture. So yeah, long story short - if you need to upgrade (very) soon, 12th gen is a super-safe bet and something like i5 13600K would be a great CPU for fair price 🙂 I mean, benchmarks aren't really something to strictly use as the main factor to choose your CPU but on cpubenchmark your i7 6700K has 8953 score with 2513 single thread, while the i5 13600K has 38507 with 4182 single thread. Pretty damn massive upgrade over your current CPU which is still a very good CPU in 2023.

What kind of crazy nonsense are local commentators? NB benchmarks have shown that 13th gen Intel requires twice as much power to be as fast as Zen4. This is a pure technological defeat of Intel. And only their multiple superiority in terms of the volume of their own factories (and marketing), as well as a stupid idea AMD holding back products for the sake of inflating prices leads to the current state of the market, when Zen3+/Zen4 laptops are several times less retail than laptops with the 13th generation. As always, size matters...
