Because:
1) No one uses that thing anymore, aside from very few special cases (eg: people working in really hard environments and using gloves)
2) Lenovo has a patent regarding pointing sticks. Dell & HP had their own implementation, but it wasnt as good from what I heard.
And like I mentioned before, it would be a huge waste of time/resources for a company like Framework. Just grab a Thinkpad Keyboard II and be done with it as a solution.
