You are misinformed on both counts. The Trackpoint is still popular among thinkpad loyalists like myself whose muscle memory is so programmed that it is the only thing keeping me to the atrocious new Lenovo. For those who know how to use it, it is more accurate and necessary in space constrained use like when I'm flying in economy class.

And the Trackpoint IV patent is 25 years old and has expired and in the public domain. I can't post links without registering, but it is patent US6115030

I don't know why they don't offer a keyboard with a "pointing stick." A lot of Thinkpad people would be all over this concept. Though, the Framework laptops are from what I hear a bit clunkier than a top Thinkpad, the options, upgrade & service stream is appealing.
