So true. The reason I've delayed purchasing a new laptop is the mediocre screens (especially low brightness) they come with. Let's hope 1200 nits is the new norm.

My choice differs as I also have security concerns related to clouds, which I avoid. So a choice can include decisions prior to choosing softwares and an operating system.

Sure, but they might not apply to anyone else. I like having the Linux environment, and Chromebooks are the only Linux laptops that actually work. Unlike a ThinkPad or a Dell, Chromebook power management and multitouch work out of the box, no issues. I also prefer the once-a-month instant software update to all other operating systems' update mechanism, which either takes too much (macOS) happens too often (Windows) or randomly breaks everything (Ubuntu). I can let my kids use my Chromebook without any reservations that they are going to screw anything up, since everything is in the cloud and if it comes to that extreme I can factory reset the machine and be back up and running within a few minutes at worst. Finally, I can use a Chromebook for my remote work, and because it's a naturally safer system I don't need to install a battery-gobbling antivirus and policy engine like I need to use on a MacBook.

I think a buyer's overall strategy should be to choose their applications, then the operating system that best supports those applications, and finally hardware to suit the operating system. In that worldview, hardware reviewers should reserve their thoughts about the operating system, and predicate their review on the fact that readers already want that OS. Think of how annoying it would be if a habitual ChromeOS user reviewed laptops and in 95% of the articles inserted their dismissive opinions about Windows.

Thanks for reviewing the hardware. I hate reading articles by authors who believe their readers are looking for opinions on ChromeOS from a person who has never used it. Those of us in the market for Chromebooks know why we are buying them.

While the device screen has a 60Hz refresh rate can it push 4K @ 120fps to an external monitor?  I believe it should be able to based on the various components but would very much appreciate you testing and confirming.

This an excellent and thorough review; great work.  This Chromebook is now on my buy list.

Very very nice, this laptop might safe me from buying a bright MacBook Pro.
