I dont know when he wanted to change lane or while on FSD he had signaled to change lane but maybe that flashing yellow light may have caused the car to slow down coming to a stop just like all tesla cars on FSDA do when it notices a stoplight it will alert of the driver of approaching a stoplight and will brake but also says to accelerate if you want to proceed. That is what I think may have happened. I haven't driven out to the bridge to test my theory but that us what I think MAY have happened.
That was already brought up, including in the article itself, and people have tested by attempting to reproduce it in similar conditions. I don't know if they timed it exactly the same, so I'm not sure they've ruled the light out at this point, but so far it doesn't seem like that's what caused it. In one video trying to simulate it, the guy speculated that it seemed like a case where the driver wasn't paying attention, because if the FSD mode senses that, it will warn the driver that it's going to disengage and slow down, and it does so fairly quickly, and he said it seemed very similar to what happened in this accident.
