It's a very good news. Lightning in iPhones is SLOW (it's USB 2.0 level data transfer speeds... it takes ages to transfer large files, e.g. movies to PC) and so outdated compared to USB 3.x/USB 4. USB-C is used in iPads for some time and nobody complains.
Apple has confirmed that the company intends to comply with the EU by switching future iPhones to USB Type-C. While Apple has already moved most of its product lines from Lightning to USB Type-C, Apple has remained steadfast over the proprietary connector for its smartphones.
