As far as I know DP Alt Mode outside of TB3+ does not support 2 4k monitors, only one. Without a docking station and with it.
TB4 is required to support 2xDP1.4b - but with a cut bandwidth, keep this in mind, because. full-fledged DP1.4b - 25.92Gbits (32Gbps including service traffic), while TB4 has a maximum of only 40Gbps for 2 DP channels, i.e. no more than 20 Gbit/s for each excluding service traffic.
Even TB5 with DP2.0 support does not fully support 2 channels of DP2.0. Even in DP Alt Mode at 120Gbps (including service traffic). Need 160Gbps...
It's time to switch to optics. I don't understand why consortiums are still dragging this out. On optics, it is easy to provide 500 Gb / s immediately even at 20m (which is very convenient for external video cards and 4k + projectors with a high frame rate).
It will be possible to place a noisy system unit with powerful hardware at home in a separate room or utility room, and put only an optical docking station on your desktop in your office, connecting all the peripherals to it. Bliss and complete silence in the workplace! This is what the entire IT industry should strive for...
