If you check the online forums at Fitbit about the Charge 5 you will see that the firmware update not only doesn't solve the battery drain problem but it has apparently given the same problem to other users who did not have it previously. This update also has given people other problems such as with synching. Most people are just receiving boiler plate responses from FB which do not help solve the problems.
There are other changes which were supposed to happen such as new clock faces but people are reporting they do not see any new clock faces. There has been a drastic change made in the display of overnight sPO2 data which was poor anyway because neither the X nor Y axis is labeled.
I commented on an issue about "burns" on the wrist (probably not thermal burns but a rash of some kind) and FB opened up a spurious repair ticket for me as if I had said my wrist has been burned and it has not. They appear to be in panic mode now and I wonder if they simply do not have the manpower to handle all the complaints. I am counselling people to wait a couple of weeks to see what the ultimate response will be. But for now I am not updating the app in the hopes that this will prevent an automatic download onto my Charge 5 which has worked perfectly since I bought it 9 months ago.
Why does this only work for Charge 5? I doubt there's any reason it won't work on previous models. And Google claims they care about sustainability? Such nonsense.
The latest update for the Fitbit Charge 5, version 1.171.50, is now available. The update brings the Find Phone tool to the device, enabling you to generate a loud noise on a connected smartphone, similar to Apple's Find My Phone feature. Also included is a fix for the recently spotted battery drain issue alongside various other improvements and bug fixes.
