Performance per watt yes. But raw horsepower NO. My Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition's Core i7-12700H Alder Lake will give the M2 a run for its money in terms of raw horsepower but a higher power consumption. But to say that nothing comes close to the M2 when it comes to computing power right now, it is, in my opinion a false statement. Peace. 

I guess they need to omit something to entice people to buy the pro models i. E. If you need more ram or more external monitors get the pro. The external monitor limit does seem quite cheap of Apple. The ram isssue is overblown, i tried the M1 8gb and 16gb models and it takes a lot of tasks to make them run out of ram. For some reason macos performms different tly here. I'd say they are equivalent to 16 and 32gb ram on Windows. For example I had lightroom, Photoshop and a browser open on the 8gb model at the same time and it seems to perform with no issues most of the time. No way I could do that on an 8gb Windows system. Not sure why that is but that's my experience

Yes, I know that. But with M2, people were expecting more fixes over the bigger limitations M1 had, like the external display limitation on the Macbooks. It doesn't sounds like that big of an issue to fix for Apple and it's so weird there's a limitation to begin with.
The ram limitation is also kind of weird. I was expecting them to make the jump to 32 gb as a maximum (which would have been great) but jumping to 24gb is really weird. Feels like they are just doing half jumps in purpose.

And other than that, there was nothing else thrown in. I feel this is just a mid-cycle refresh to keep the momentum going.

And like I mentioned previously, this forces Apple to still sell the Mac Mini 2018 with Intel, because that one goes up to 64gb ram, and they still dont have (or dont want?) a proper product to substitute it.

For multi-threaded load, M1 and current Ryzen are similar. Let us say that Intel is roughly 1/2 as efficient then. Roughly 1/5 might apply for some cases of light, single threaded use.

This is just Apple still salty that Intel held them back in terms of scamming their customers with those laptops.

M2 being just a revised M1 raises red flags that they pretty much have plateau in just 2 years in. And with M2 supporting only 24gb of ram, means they are forced to still devices like the Intel 2018 Mac Mini, due to the latter supporting up to 64 gb ram. Worse is, the M2 still has the same external display limitations as the M1, when even those low end Intel models can drive more displays externally.

And since it seems those CPUs will have a ~18 month lifecycle, one wonders where they will head up next with the ARM transition. I think they jumped ships too fast.
