Nvidia did introduce the Jetson Nano 2 GB with a ~$40 price cut a year and a half after the original. I think there's some hope that they will offer a better low cost board in the future.

NVIDIA has revealed new Jetson AGX devices, both with 12-core CPUs and Ampere-based GPUs. The pair should offer 200 TOPS of AI performance (INT8) and are compatible with previous Jetson devices.
