The only problem with Apple is their ecosystem. They lock customer's in it.

But people accept it. Why? Because Apple makes sure (due to their inherent control over hardware and software) that thier ecosystem is well integrated and works nice.

This is all good and nice untill you see the restrictions. Like the best video editors Da Vinci resolve, Adobe premiere both available on Mac and windows but Apples final cut is only for mac (Not even for their own M1 iPad pro).

Ever thought of custom building a computer (not specifically pc/linux/mac), then you can select any part you want of your choice and your budget and also can upgrade later.

CPU: only intel and amd (see the restriction), GPU: Nvidia, Amd and now upcoming intel. RAM, Storage etc.

Now, some people will say, why do I even care about a pc I will just get a Mac book, Mac mini or Mac Pro. (It's just your use case and not everybody's).

But ideally it should be like: yeah, but what can we do, it is what it is. (Now this is accepting the situation and going with the best. i.e. if in future Apple or any other corporation is not up to the mark then just move on, no need to defend them).

A prime example is the RED camera system. You can only use their storage to record, which is very expensive. But now their latest camera you can use other cards as well.

I'm still waiting for the day where I can run my eGPU with that M1 chipset.

Don't you know that a 5800H is common a notebook CPU ? 11800 11th generation offer from Intel are in 14000 already.
At end of the day what matter is results,  i can render a scene in half time  than  M1 . So instead of 40min i can render in 20 min. 20 min back in my life. or i can double the iterations to get a better work.
In multicore M1 is behind probably by 4 years
When that changes i'll praise them, competition is what makes all of them improve.

We may like or dislike it, the fact remains Apple has a killer CPU that far exceeds anything else in power efficiency and thermal output for that raw computational power. Be free to rave about it's limitations in DesktopCheck and ServerCheck, because as far as what would be espected in NotebookCheck you are only making silly desperate arguments to diminish the significance of the M1 in notebooks, ultraportables, and the likes.

It would be dumb if these ARM computer being called a desktop replacement, because everything is soldered now.

Apple processors are good only for the consumers and not for those industry which requires compute power/server (which is required by everyone). So they still depends on Intel, AMD and Nvidia (or they develop their own custom solutions).

Just check every scientific institutions around the world, Hollywood's rendering systems, military, supercomputers and many more.

Any large scale compute solution requires CPU/GPU and Apple don't supply that individual chip. So it's not scalable.

But for general consumers and indie developers/creators it is very good and efficient.

Does it really only use 2w? Really? Your numbers sees off on more than one occasion mate.

The discussion started with desktop performance, and m1 can't measure there for the pro users - or the multi core as the dude said if you will..

There's no doubt m1 is impressive, but they really haven't made anything for desktop users yet. I'm sure it will come, but they need to prove it can scale up first.

It certainly do not dominates anything that needs multicore. A Cinebench render in a 5800H is 13000 in M1 is 7xxx...
