I don't understand how it's a sales disaster. I don't think Apple ever intended to sell more minis than the regular or pro. But for people with small hands like me, it's a really great phone. They could've made it slightly thicker with more battery life, but switching off all unwanted stuff could increase the battery life. And you probably would have another big phone with you always anyway, not just in the pocket.

I literally wanted to buy Iphone 12 mini for my wife and still there is a 'niche' market for compact phones however my downturn was bad battery time. Iphone 12 mini could not last a full work day in single charge, battery drains quickly and that was the demise of it, not the screen size.
It doesn't last as long as current big phones, but it lasts longer than old small iPhones. Or compact Xperias IIRC. You can only fit so much inside a body that small.
...again, why not make it thicker...?

I think companies don't want to sell smaller devices. Two of the best small Androids from the past few years are the Samsung S10e and the Google Pixel 4a. The price of the S10e hasn't come down since it was released two years ago. The Pixel 4a one year after release is still selling for minimum €400 when MSRP is €350 (in NL).

if relatively the sales of the mini and the se are so good, then apple should think about developing an iphone se mini too?!

Hmm, well, depends on what their sale target was. And that Mate 40 Pro really surprised me. Supposedly they ran out of chips, who could've known "running out" meant at least millions left? And they have spares for foldables as well as upcoming the P model.

Counterpoint has now released its estimated global smartphone sales numbers for the first quarter of the year. The iPhone 12 earns top spot as the best-selling smartphone in the world over the period, while the iPhone 12 Mini fails to even make the top ten. The Redmi 9A, however, is the best-selling Android smartphone.
