I'm very interested in this concept, but I feel they're not going to take full advantage of it. Granted, at first they have to limit the various options, and hopefully if/when they grow they'll really open it up to maximize the customization options, including by getting third-party OEMs onboard to make various accessories. When I can buy a convertible chassis and put a ThinkPad-style keyboard, complete with TrackPoint, in it, as well as hopefully a second M.2 SSD or, even better, a 2.5" drive, I'll be sold. And it would be really nice if they would set it up with dual batteries and make it easy to swap them out, so you could get some extras and swap one while the other keeps the computer running and get essentially unlimited battery runtime.
So basically, you want a modern expandable ThinkPad.
Not really. The only good things about ThinkPads are the keyboard (getting worse gradually over time) and the TrackPoint (also somehow worse on my new laptop than the one I had years ago and than my USB ThankPad keyboard). Yes, I want those features, but just two features don't mean I want a ThinkPad. In fact, I absolutely
don't want any more Lenovo products, I
just want those two features on a different, better laptop from a better company. Pretty much everything else about ThinkPads ranges from garbage to average. Those two features are the only reasons I bought a ThinkPad over other offerings, and I'm constantly torn between regret for buying such a POS and knowing that I'd be unhappy with anything else as well due to everyone else's inferior input.
