Love my G8x.
Sadly no other company offers what LG does at all. Sd card resder, headphone jack etc.
Very sad state of affairs for people wanting a functional phone

At this point, I might look at Sony flagship phones despite the lack of FM Radio support.

I started to know LG back in 2019 with the V50. When I first saw the V50's DualScreen case, that was love at first sight for me. To see someone like LG can make something different among the sea of generic-looking smartphones, that is definitely a breath of fresh air. That was also the first time I know about the Quad DAC feature. Another thing I like about LG is its competitive pricing among its equivalent rivals. Take the V60 as an example - when it was launched last year, a brand new V60 without its DualScreen case cost $799. By contrast, the cheapest Samsung Galaxy S20 is $200 more expensive than the V60, and you don't have a 3.5mm audio jack with Quad DAC or second screen capability or even FM Radio support.

My only gripe with LG phones is the region availability and lack of marketing. I myself have to import my V50 with its DualScreen case to Malaysia all the way from the USA, and that's not a good sign to me. Also, LG didn't really do much marketing with their phones. Even though Sony phones aren't selling like hot cakes, at least they do some real marketing with it.

Too bad, while other companies finally offer wide angle cameras, no other company than LG offers DAC and headphone jack...

Guess I'll have to hold on to my LG for years...

LG's DAC really is my absolute favourite. It was because of it that I no longer use wireless headphones and go wired. Wireless headphones can never achieve the same audio quality as LG's DAC.

My LG G Pro 2 (phablet version of LG G2) from 2014 still works. G series had a nice unique design with the volume buttons & power button at the back, very handy. My G Pro 2 is extremely durable (has survived numerous falls without anything happening to the screen), has a removable 3200 mAH battery, Snapdragon 800, micro-USB to HDMI 1080p video out with audio. I use this antiquated phone now only as a wired media player to store movies on a huge 512 GB SD card and watch them via its SlimPort to HDMI.

Camera is 13 MP with OIS and 4K video (great in 2014!), a huge 5.9 inch 82 mm wide/3.22 inch wide IPS LCD display, IR blaster and two notification LEDs - one on the back in the power button and another on the front. It has Android KitKat with ticker notifications and nicer flat Recent apps view which can show 3 apps at once which I like, unlike the current horrible one in stock Android which shows only 1 full app at a time and other two partially.

But obviously, its processor, camera and OS are too dated, KitKat has no Doze mode so battery comes down rapidly. I moved on to newer Android phones but I miss some of its unique features, which unfortunately have been lost in newer phones - the extremely wide yet pocketable screen (most phones are now 77-78mm wide, not 82mm). None except a handful have removable battery, notification LED is extinct but the AOD is not as customizable in many phones to show only notifications and not other useless fluff that takes down battery. And video out for which I still use LG G Pro 2 is restricted now to the extremely overpriced $1000+ flagships. 👎🏼

I have owned goods from them since they were just called Gold star, before getting lucky. Honestly, I don't miss LG phones. They had a few unique things like the G3 laser focus and the Sabre DACs, but otherwise they were one-hitters. There was no overall cohesiveness in the succession. I got the G3, G4 and skipped the G5, until G8X. I was expecting LG to build on their lead in the camera and screen department and retaining the ease to change batteries. Instead, they lost those leads and kept the bootlooping and terrible support. Disappointed but now the market is flooded with choices unlike the days of the G3. So farewell but good luck with your washing machines.

While I don't disagree that LG have delivered some products that standout from the crowd, software support is its undoing. You can't sell a phone with almost non-existent after sales support, especially when selling a mid to high end phone. Throughout the lifetime of the G4 I used to own, I think I only saw 1 or 2 updates. That's bad when there are issues/ bugs with the software that took a very long time to fix. So I feel it's a good decision when you are half hearted into selling a product.

According to a new report, LG has decided to close its smartphone mobile division. LG will publicly announce its decision on April 5, bringing to an end a smartphone company that innovated where others did not. Unfortunately, the LG Wing could prove to be the final flagship LG smartphone that comes to market.
