I can loosely agree about how Android hasn't evolved all that well over the recent years. However I think most people are wrong about Android One. For my needs, I don't need all the fancy gestures, and other crap that most OEMs put on their devices. Coming from Windows Phones, I like a clean, stock OS that performs well.

I had 2 HMD Nokia devices that perform well. HMD sort of needs Android One since all the work has basically been done for them (except for camera app). They don't have the manpower to create their own version (and maintain) their own version of Android. I never had issues with updates to my devices as they were mostly on time.

I can understand that most OEMs squash bugs that are present in the OS when they configure their "flavor" of Android. My issue is the redundant software that OEMs put on. The first thing I have done (whether it be a carrier branded device or a custom Droid like Samsung), I disable/uninstall all the crap they put on to make it as clean as possible.

And lastly, I just got a Sony Xperia 5 II. No problems so far. Wish battery life was a little better. I remember my Nokia making the jump from A-9 to A-10 and the battery life depletion was very noticeable. Everyone has to remember that out of the box versions of an OS will have the best battery life and performance. OS upgrades will always hit the battery life and performance to some degree.

I think this is both a Google and OEM problem in regard to quality testing. They work with fresh devices in their labs thus they don't notice (or fix) these types of things. We notice them because we use these devices and have apps what we install ourselves that we use all the time. So optimizations are not there to address it.

What exactly does "repeated in the notification shade mean"? That is not very descriptive.

Anyway, seems to me that these complaints are coming from a small number of people. These complaints also sound more like nitpicks, though the slowing down of the phone and depleted battery performance is concerning. I'd like to hear more than just hand-me-down anecdotal evidence.

Huawei is a dead brand. The sanctions are not going to change with a new US president. It's a national security issue. You've heard it here first.

For Google's stock Android, Google just need to copy everything Samsung is doing with One UI, then remove the preinstalled bloatware and Samsung-exclusive stuff, and add the fancy new features thought up at Google HQ. That will be stock Android. That's all that needs to be done.

Sony is so pathetic, it doesn't even have changelogs for the updates to Xperia phones.

Same old same old complaints that stem from the fact that it's 'different' but not because it's actually broken.

You could swap every word in the article about Android 11 and Android 10 with the words Kit Kat and Gingerbread and you would not know if it was 2013/14 or 2020/21.

It's a Sony phone - you have to expect half-baked Android that seems vanilla, but it's anything but and a bag of issues as a bonus.
My Xperia ... experience was less than pleasant.
