Budget mini? Who invented this, apparently having smoked to the point of unconsciousness?

Even in the US, the average smartphone purchase check is below $ 600. Even by US standards, the IP12 mini is an expensive smartphone.

But at the same time it is on a flickering AMOLED with a 61-120Hz PWM and a funny battery.

Apple sells its smartphones in the world mainly to kleptocracies in third world countries, it makes no sense for them to buy the younger version when they can easily take the top-end version with the stolen money.

For practical people, smartphones are needed in the old 4 "but with 5.2" screens and the old 5 ", but with 5.7" screens. With batteries from 4000 and with IPS, and not with flickering AMOLEDs, which are extremely harmful to the eyes during prolonged reading, especially in semi-darkness, with low screen brightness.

Where are all the Chinese with models on IPS in mini sizes. but with a 4000+ battery and a Qualcomm 720G?

The world is tired of shovels that don't fit into pockets. Got it!

Budget IPhone 12 mini flopped because of minimum battery time..
Otherwise it should have been a hit if battery time was great.
It's good for what it is. Much better than SE. Try comparing it to other smaller phones. People who want a small phone are less likely to use it all the time. The more time you spend using a phone, the more you tend to appreciate a bigger screen. Personally, I wouldn't mind the phone being a bit thicker in exchange for a bigger cell. But I know how people moaned about compact Xperias being thicker. The XZ2 was a pleasure to hold but it caught a lot of flak for its thickness. You can't have it all.

$729 USD is a "budget" price for smartphones nowadays? Not my budget!

What sort of nonsense is it to call the mini a budget option? Have you seen the price tag? It's perfectly normal for the price to go up as screen size goes up within the same line. It was the same with Xperias. The Compacts were the cheapest. It's also normal for the smaller versions to give up something. For one, there is physically less space. Which also typically means a smaller galvanic cell, so less power and less energy available. And they're cheaper; I expect the reduction in price to be relatively larger than the reduction in production cost. So, there is pressure to save some money to improve margin.

I don't know about you, but I wasn't expecting the mini to be released at a higher price point than iPhone 11 was. Even accounting for 5G. Of course, it didn't really surprise me. Given how expensive Android phones have become, pushing the standard iPhone towards the cheap end of the high-end, my gut feared that Apple might hike prices. And they did. They did it with iPad Air as well. Of course, the relative lack of interest in the mini might suggest to them that it might be safe to re-purpose it as SE3 relatively soon without it cannibalizing the bigger iPhone (still, I would expect at least two year life cycle for the SE2, unless they're not satisfied with the volume). The performance doesn't really surprise me. I feared this would happen. Feared because I love small phones. But I realize I'm in a minority. I was prepared for the 12 mini to be a one off, not to be repeated.

A recent Cowen analysts' reports paints a rosy picture for Apple iPhone sales this year. The complete iPhone 12 lineup is expected to sell over 55 million units by the end of Q1 2021. The iPhone 12 Mini, however, Apple's budget play, continued to disappoint with lower-than-expected sales volume.
