No, I think foldable phones are a logical extension of wanting bigger screens but also wanting to use your phone one-handed. 'Stretchable' phones might be better but there are none on the market yet and I'd bet they're prone to scratching or have weird distortions at the edges of the screen.

Its Phone not a TV !  If you need a giant screen mobile device there are less expensive tablets with Sim card support.
It's trying to be a tablet and a phone and only does half of it right.

Tablets have critical flaws when used as a phone, they're too large for one-handed operation or to fit in a trouser pocket. If they need a bag to carry around then I'd rather have a laptop as that's far more capable than any phone or tablet. If they can't be used one-handed I need a phone anyway for any time I'm on the move. Now that I have a phone and a laptop when would I ever reach for the tablet? I think tablets that aren't aimed at replacing laptops are kind of a dead market.

Tablet-sized devices that shrink down to phone-sized for use on the move though, that's got potential. All the benefits of a tablet with none of the drawbacks. The only issue is price but that will come down with time.

Foldable phones are logic. They just need to be done right.
