Mate 40 Pro applies the same 27mm equivalent crop to the main camera and ultra-wide has the same 18mm equivalent field of view as in P40 Pro, so it is reasonable to assume that you can do the same on Mate 40 Pro, no?

No, since they're describing the full FoV and 12MP auto in a mutually exclusive manner in the latest Mate review, even suggesting that to shoot the full main module you need to resize the 50MP output to 12MP to lower noise, and that they still prefer the stacked but narrow output.

They described the camera in that way too in their early unit P40 Pro review only to end up finiding out they could zoom out to use the complete field of view and adding another section in the review of P40 Pro Plus to demonstrate it. Furthermore GSMA is known not to cover the camera features thoroughly, they added a set of samples taken in special stacked 50MP after readers had pointed out its omission in P40 Pro Plus review. We can find out which one of us is wrong as soon as Mate 40 series hits our market, but I'm 98% certain I'm the right one here, have a good day ;)
