In 2 years, suddenly a Chinese ARM look-alike will come out of the blue with the same technology and undercut ARM in their own business, eventually bankrupting them.
Indeed, I'm afraid I can't rule that out, and the Party's mouthpieces will self-righteously claim that it's based on the law from their rubber-stamp congress.

I knew establishing JVs in China was risky. I didn't know it was this risky.

Hmmm, this is not very surprising given the way things transpired at SoftBank over the past few years. Nevertheless, it would not be surprising if the entire 'revolt' is somehow related to the Chinese being cut off slowly but steadily from the global semiconductor industry. The CCP couldn't have let off an entire trove of IP in its backyard without a fight.

If Nvidia manages to buy ARM, team green will certainly have its hands full with all sorts of inherent problems in addition to all the other competing ARM clients that demand equal access to current IPs and future technologies. One such problem may have been created by Softbank itself when it began overinvesting in an IoT ARM division that did not take off, plus the Chinese ARM branch could prove a bit of a wildcard as its CEO is now trying to separate from the British branch.
