Wait, nobody that owns any kind of PlayStation would buy an Xbox? Ever? That's a bit much, no? I own a PS2, PS3 and PS4, (also a 360 and Xbone), and I'm definitely getting an XSX. Might want to be a bit more precise with your wording there.
Brand loyalty is definitely a thing, but for the vast hordes of people who buy a console to play the latest Fifa/Madden/Whatever, a cheaper console that does "the same" could be a powerful value proposition as long as it is still tangibly better than the previous generation. And a big part of the point here is that not a lot of people can afford a $599 console, and even $499 is often a stretch. History shows that console sales take off when pricing nears $300.
