Who is this clown? Obviously he didn't understand Cerny's presentation. I doubt he has ever written software let alone a game. We really won't know until we play with the SDK ourselves or see the games... but from what developers are saying, this is revolutionary not just iterative.
There isn't a solution even close on PC.. even the PCIE 4 Raid configuration he talks about. Obviously no game today it optimized for such a crazy configuration and SSDs on PC don't get anywhere near 5GB/S on PC anyways. Never mind the custom silicon designed to address all the current bottlenecks. Again, we don't know real world performance despite indications that it should be a significant leap, we'll have to wait for that. But even if half of Sony's talk is bluster there is no doubt this clueless author will be eating his words. Why anyone would embarrass themselves and wreck their reputation for a few clicks is beyond me. Live fast and die young I suppose.

TLDR: Buthurt author tries to justify his fanboyism with wild speculations. As long as notebookcheck keeps employing such people, i will read their otherwise excellent tests with more doubts... a shame really, this is not the quality standards I'm used to

Of course right now there is no big difference with a much faster ssd games today are designed fore HDD.( So relay really slow slow storage even xbox ssd will be 40x faster)

But games are going to be that designed to use the fast storage

So you will  not be able to play next gen games with an HDD on PC  and will probably need a lot off ram and of course an SSD

So Yes right now having a faster ssd for gaming is useless ( any standard ssd is fine)

Right now having a fast SSD is like having a really fast car but you are only allowed to drive 30 kmh...

Next gen games will be designed for ssd so crazy load times and much much much "better streaming", texures, view distance and more you don't need to designe a game around slow storage anymore  the Xbox will have all that too but Sony has a big advantage here but I believe that will only really show after a few years and in first party games of course.

The auther ignores the fact that the entire system and games are being built around the faster storage so things that are traditionally done in a specific manner can and will be changed like the fact devs had to load entire many assets that they may not specifically at the moment just to prevent further loading screens this alone can bring better utilization of memory. The is whole article is shortsighted and author shows lack deep understanding into computing systems. While Sony claims should be taken cautiously and with some skepticism, completely disregarding the new storage system as gimmick is an amateur review.

All Xbox games will be available on PC, no point in getting a Xbox. Some PS5 exclusive may take years to show up on PC if they ever do. I already have a PC that is almost as powerful as the upcoming Xbox and I can upgrade it for less than what the Xbox will cost.

OK, so the fact the PS5's GPU is rated at 10.3 Tflops vs the XBSX's 12 Tflops - a 14.6% difference - indicates that the console is "substantially underpowered?". Get a life!

I'll be getting both, because I'm not a child and can recognize that both have  different strengths and weaknesses.

As far as being less powerful, I have a feeling Sony is going to undercut on price again.

Pretty much this.

The PS4 was 40% better GPU throughput than the XBOX One, but that wasn't the reason people bought it in droves.  It was because it was cheaper AND it wasn't bullshitting you about DRM.

This time around XBOX has a 20% GPU throughput, but do any of us think they it will outsell the PS5?  Nope - No one is getting rid of thier current gen collection for a 20% boost in GPU throughput, and sony has more than enough special sauce to make PS5 owners believe in it being special.

Actually, it's more a case that the PS4 was +50% more powerful than the Xbox One. That's a noticeable difference. Many games were able to run at a locked 1080p-30fps on the PS4, but on the XB1 they dropped frames to 20-25fps AND ran at a lower sub-800p resolution.

Not to mention the PS4 used a closed-source API very similar to Vulkan, whereas the XB1 fumbled with it's DirectX 11-12 APIs. And that Sony was being open, where MS was closing the fort with draconian DRM limits (and creepy privacy).

This time, it looks like MS's Xbox has the better software/SDK, uses less power, runs cooler, runs quieter, and gives a +25% more performance.

And MS is being MORE open with their cross-play stance, and awesome Backwards Compatibly. Sony meanwhile is insisting people simply buy it's console, and insist that people also pay for a PS Now subscription.

If both consoles ship at the same price, there's no doubt the Xbox series X is the better value. But we will see how marketing and Reality Distortion Field affects buyers. And if Sony manages to release better exclusives, both faster and more numerous, then they're likely to win anyways.

You are wrong, PC's have alot of overhead to do, windows has layers and this is where gaming consoles get the upper edge.  Full hardware utilization is possible on a console, this is also why playstation gets an edge over xbox, xbox is using a win10 variant while ps5 has a deep down Linux core that does not have much overhead. But enough about comparisons, what I'm trying to say is, the games on ps5 will have full access to the bus 12 priority levels I think if I'm correct
...   I can go on but you get the picture.    Ps5 has the ability to be a much more powerful machine

Im missing the part to where it's explained why the SSD is a "gimmick" on the PS5?  Is it only a gimmick on PS5 and not Xbox, and if so, again why? A gimmick is something that doesn't add any real useful function or have much purpose.  Please someone fill me in.

The series X Beast absolutely destroys POS5. All games will run and look better on X Beast. Ponies on suicide watch.

Lol, the Ponies have lost their minds. The author is clearly more knowledgeable than any of you cucks, and you're all foaming at the mouth as if he really needs YOU to explain to him was a SSD is, or what Sony's marketing team fabricated especially for all you feeble-minded, gullible sheep. Grow the f*** up, you sad losers. The PS5 is a joke next to the Series X, even if it does sell better, something that is CLEARLY very important to you, for some reason. Buy your weak, pathetic, overheating, console and enjoy this next gen with no BC. Have fun paying for "remastered" games. Have fun watching your console catching fire when it fails to cool the ludicrously overclocked GPU.

What the hell... what's the point of this article? Yes, the fast SDD isn't "magical", the way it can be used is what's magical.
I started with "what the hell" because while the author reminds that Microsoft's slower SDD will use things like "Quick Resume" and "Velocity Architecture" do improve games, he completely ignores the fact that Sony will do the same.
Also, the compression that Sony will use is a bit better and the decompressor is more than 3 times faster.

I didn't paid attention to who is writing these next gen opinions. Is different people, that's why the opinions are so contradictory?
Certainly do pay attention to the authors, the opinion pieces are the authors' personal opinions and I'm aware of the situation that not all the authors keep track of everything that appears on the site. :)
