it took just a couple of years for desktop cpus. media nowadays is too strong.

While I generally concur with most points below, perception matters as well. The vast majority of computer users aren't tech enthusiasts and hardly care about what goes inside their PC as long as it does the job. And for many, Intel is synonymous with that.

AMD does have a perception barrier to break, at least in laptops. I think it could be a couple of generations before we see this happening.

seems AMD's destiny of giving tough competition but not leading will not change anytime sooner on laptop. don't know if will ever change because this was the right time with good zen 2 design. I fear it is start of intels come back like it was with core2duo after athlon 64. As history AMD never was competitive without jim keller. And now he is on opposite side. twice will be slaughter. The only wait is for intel 10nm followed by 7nm. Don't know how long TSMC or samsung can keep lead against long time leader in fabrication.

zen->zen 2 jump is too big
AMD should lead in any category under sustained load. single, multy and battery.
we have no clue about consumption at lower states, idle, youtube and so on.
intel will lead in short burst single core by exceeding the tdp by much.

If you want a laptop with Thunderbolt 3, the choice is still clear until AMD adds USB 4.0 in next generation. But by then Intel would have added Thunderbolt 4/PCIe 4 in mobile chips.

But sadly those 14nm parts are expected to be higher performing than 7nm TSMC fabbed AMD mobile parts. AMD's power management for mobile is extremely poor leading to poor battery life. Process-wise the TSMC 7nm performs close to Intel's 10nm. But due to AMD's poor power management design choice for using LDOs will lead to performing worse. In the desktop side they have core count advantage but here both are 8 core. So Intel should lead in since thread, multi thread and lower idle power draw leading to better battery life.
