Hopely this is really coming. Earlier i use Nokia 700 phone, and i love it. So Small, and so easy to carry. And display, it's not small to use.

This time 99% of phones are way too big. I do not need big screen, becouse i wathc tv in livingroom.

So please Sony, make my wish to come true, make a smaller phone  :)

Is this phone available yet? I am an Apple refugee, sad that the new iPhone SE is actually the size of an iPhone 8, at 67mm wide (vs original SE at 58mm wide) and thus I can't hold it. I had been waiting and hoping and am now looking to jump ship! I'd welcome hearing about any current phones under 64 mm wide.

5.5 inches is not "small," and "who would buy it" is all the people who bought the previous models that actually WERE small. Let me just remind you, Xperia's last Compact was more popular than its full-size phones, and has also held its value better. People are still buying it even though it's 2 years old, still really expensive, and frankly not that good.

You can't say "no one would buy" smaller phones when no one is even making smaller phones. People can't buy something that doesn't exist. Tons of us are tired of phablets and want something we can operate with one hand. A 5.5. inch display does NOT qualify.

Xperia has been slowly screwing up its Compact line for years now, and I'm officially jumping ship. The iPhone SE 2020 gets my money now, for actually making a relatively compact phone. I still wish it was smaller, but it's better than this crap, especially given how obnoxious Sony's software is and their absurd design-by-committee chasses.

small = ~130cm tall, 3.5 audio jack, oled, wireles charging, sd card slot, gps.
Everything else is bonus :)

All of this specs has older phones, like Lumia735. Now in year 2020 nothing like this exists.

Because no one--relatively, at least--would buy it.

IF it doesnt exist, no one can buy it :)
Looks like manufactures has this dogma: small = cheap. And it goes against the specification... Missing feature here and there, so no one is satisfied/impressed by the result.

No sony have not listened to its hardcore users.. We want a phone NOT bigger that ZX1 compact and a FAST cpu.
Why is that so hard to understand, its not a compact just because its smaller that 6-7 inch crazy tablet phones.
Compact means small..
Come on Sony, why wont you listen to us?

Psyched to see the potential for another real compact - but it's disappointing that it "will not be a flagship device".  The big draw of the Xperia Compact line in the first place was that it was pretty much the only one that had flagship specs in a small package.  If you don't care about performance, you probably aren't going to be spending $300+ on a compact smartphone.

Also, this is a bunch of BS:
"Most flagships these have displays bigger than 6.1", which is ample proof of what the market wants in that segment. Making a small flagship device may appeal to enthusiasts but would most buy actually go out and buy it?

The Galaxy S10+, for example, is the best-selling S10 device, not the S10e. It would be unreasonable to expect Sony to invest money into a device that would likely not sell well; a mid-range offering is the more sensible business decision."

It's ridiculous to assume that because there are no true compact smartphones on the market right now, no one would buy them if there were.  The S10e is not getting as much of the "compact" market because it's NOT a compact phone, it's just "less enormous" than others.  If I can't use the phone one-handed, it's not a compact phone.

I'd love a small phone that was actually small. A 5.5 inch screen is not really easy to use one handed, your thumb will not reach the top of the screen unless you've particularly big hands.

Something with Android the size of the iPhone SE is the dream and has been for over 4 years now. 4 - 4.5 inch screen and less than 130cm tall.

Compared to the balanced design of the XZ1C, that new Xperia is .. ugly. The screen ratio is a complete nonsense. When in landscape mode, it is totally unusable except for viewing movies. When in portrait the virtual keyboard is compressed with tiny tiny keys, and you only get 2 words max per line of text. Brilliant for a 800$+ gadget! I don't consider my smartphone as a camera nor a movie screen. It's a serious communication tool , to be in touch with my friends, my bank and for my business. Maybe the occasional picture but nothing more.

If it's got a headphone jack and dual SIM I'll likely get it. Some elements resistance and a big battery would make me very happy and sure to buy. I just hate the USB C this will certainly have as all my other gadgets are usb micro.

I am excited! Returned the Xperia 5 because it was way too tall. Using a "compact" Nokia 4.2 right now but the snapdragon 439 is slow and laggy and the screen is mediocre. I will switch back to Sony the day this is released in the US!!

It looks physically bigger than the 5'9" Xiaomi 9 SE.

The 9 SE is 147×70 mm, even larger than the S10e.
