If it wasn't obvious which it seems it wasn't, this wasn't done for practical reasons. Never heard of the enthusiast community? A lot of people do this for fun.

It's a risky process that requires you to sacrifices two RTX 2080 Super cards and do some reballing and resoldering work, plus you will have to overclock the VRAM to match the 16 Gbps speeds.
