The European Competition Commission has fined Qualcomm €242 million after it found evidence that the largest US smartphone chip maker has indulged in practices that prevented companies such as Icera from effectively competing in making 3G UMTS baseband chipsets between 2009 and 2011. Qualcomm, on its part, has refuted the allegations and said that it would appeal against the ECC ruling.
