WARNING: I am the owner of a brand new EliteBook x360 1030 G4 with SureView Gen3 - and right now the technology is BROKEN. You only get 500 cd/m² on brightest screen setting and when you look from aside in a 45° angle, brightness drops down to about 8 %. This is independent of Sure View turned on or off.

I reported the issue to the business support and they confirmed that this is a known issue for all Gen3 displays - they currently try to find a hardware solution until end of year.

As long as this is not officially fixed - don't buy a G4, Sure View Gen3 does not work!

 :) :) :) At long last! I've been an Elitebook user for over 10 years and the screen quality after my 2730p has always been the weakest point of this range. In the 8460p (1600x900 best variant) it was simply abysmal. In the 840/850 G1/G2/G3/G4, it improved but remained subpar. On my x360 G2, it's disappointing as well. Probably to maximize battery life on paper. Or perhaps because HP took advantage of the fact that most business buyers weren't all that informed about these criteria (luminosity, rgb/adobe coverage, calibration, etc.) to save some dime.

On the other hand, these Elitebook have proved so reliable that I've advised my family and friends to buy them. Even second-hand if they couldn't afford the new models. I still daily use a 810 Revolve, which is not the thinnest but is built like a tank and makes a very good travel and children notebook.

:( :( :( What worries me is HP's tendency to give up easy maintenance  for closed cases and soldered parts. In which case I'll have to look for another future solution. Wish review sites took this factor into much greater consideration for their rating to help reverse the trend.  All the more so in these times where repairability and longevity are getting more crucial than in past years.
