I think this is a great product for first time users. I just bought two for my niece 12 and nephew 9 for Christmas. The only thing I have issue with is the OS. It will not properly run Minecraft (big letdown for the PC edition they wanted) and it wont properly run Skype. I wish I had done more research before buying a non Windows product. However, as I said for first time users this will suffice. Just know this is NOT a laptop this is a Chromebook. Do your research (unlike me who just got overly excited bought online and now Christmas night a bit disappointed) and know there are ways around some of these issues as long as you know your way around technology. We don't all know what HTML means. Any answer to that would be great. Merry Christmas maybe next year they will get a real laptop.
You mentioned yourself that you have done no research, and you really should have. This
is a laptop*, and it's not a powerful one. It runs chrome os, which doesn't stop it being a laptop. If you want to run Minecraft PC edition on them, you'll need a considerably more expensive device that runs Windows. With the recent addition of Android app support to chromebooks, you will be able to run the skype app fine on them.
