Bisher mussten Chiphersteller davon ausgehen, dass man Transistoren, bedingt durch die Physik, bei herkömmlicher Technik, nicht unter 5 nm verkleinern könnte. Nun ist es gelungen mit einer neuen Herstellungstechnik einen Transistor mit einem 1-nm-Gate zu produzieren.
