I pay the premium for the Omen because she is sexy as f***. No ridiculous NUMPAD present in almost every other 'Gay-ming' Laptop and the GTX 860M is enough to play the games that matter to me, CS:GO, DOTA 2, LOL. Yeah, I wont be able to play GTA V in Ultra but while you dweebs play the game on your ASUS gaming Laptop with teh 980M, I'll play it on my DESKTOP. Freakin Plebs with no taste or style - Dont bring ur BULKY-a** Laptop to College Lectures please ur embarrassing yourself. Instead get the Omen, she will make your bae jelly and in turn your she will love you even moar! PLUS I can watch movies and stuff 2 thanks to her IPS display and the touchscreen is a nice... touch. YEAAAA

The Omen is not quite the Vodoo but it still pretty damn good lookin. If Scarlett Johansson were to turn to a laptop, she'd become the Omen. Of course if you are just going for the looks, the Dell XPS 13 is a formidable opponent. That's Chloe Grace Moretz right there. However I cant play my games on the XPS and that is a HUGE turn off. No dedicated graphics card means you can only play garbage like Minecraft

And that is why my friends, when it comes to STYLE and FUNCTION, the HP Omen achieves the ULTIMATE balance

Hi,

I also own a HP Omen 5000ne with same specs as the one in review. I beleive that reviewer's unit might be faulty as i never faced any issue where the games were appearing as boxed in lower then native resolution ( games like crysis 3, far cry 4, dead space etc). However, i do agree with literal mirror effect of screen which makes outdoor use a little difficult. Also, maybe the fan noise is little bit on the higher side ( had an dell inspiron machine before). But overall, am bery happy with Omen. I can easily carry it along at my workplace also, with people not giggling around as if i have a flashy gaming notebook. Its looks are very stately and good. :)

I own an Omen, therefore my comments are not speculation, like many of the others.

I have had no scaling issues, with games or any program running odd resolutions.

I spent $10 and got an Matte Screen applied. Now I have a Matte screen with no glare, and 10-point touch and the tough protective glass. Bad cell pic, but you can clearly see the trees reflecting terrible where the glass isn't covered by the matte screen around the edges.

I am very happy with the laptop. It runs about 30 degrees cooler running games than my 2013 Envy does. People are critical about the "mid range" GTX 860m, I checked my benchmarks and it out scores my previous desktop ATI 5870, which is a old top end card. To get that much power down to ultra book laptop size is amazing.

It boots to windows in about 2 seconds, which when you see it is ridiculous. I am very happy with the machine.

The only issue so far, is the wireless AC card will not connect to my Netgear Nighthawk using the AC, when everything else in the house does.

I wanted something I could travel with for work and enjoy high quality gaming. Many reviews nit-pick as it isn't the best Ultra-book, and it isn't the most powerful Gaming Laptop. Those reviews miss the point. This laptop is about getting the most powerful machine in the smallest package, which for many users out there will be ideal. This laptop is about having your cake and eating it too.

As a multimedia laptop or a college laptop, I think the HP Omen on paper delivers. Except for the battery life and problems with the full screen.

As a gaming computer, it doesn't do well since they have a much slower graphics card. Light gamers may not mind, but as this article mentions, heavy gamers won't want it. Even stylish gamers that like thin gaming laptops won't like it because of the last year graphic specs.

I want to like HP. I love the Envy line when it was their prestige line, then they muddied the waters by making everything Envy. I loved Voodoo line before that... but I think HP for gaming is totally lost. The design of this laptop looks great, but that is about it.

HP fails to support the Evny line... and now they come out with another high priced line... please be smart and research before you buy their product...

The full-screen scaling issue is an Intel graphics bug that's been around for a long time. Just search for "Intel HD Graphics 4000 scaling issue" and you'll see the many threads on Intel's own forums about it. Since the GeForce is used only as a render device on optimus setups, the Intel gpu is in charge of actually displaying the image unfortunately.

They're aware of the issue but seem to have no idea how to fix it. They recommend disabling the touchscreen or using an external monitor (without a touchscreen) but even that isn't a sure fix.

it has a touchscreen because it is less then 2 centimeters thick as a thin and light multipurpose laptop and gamers from most of the reviews iv ever read like glossy screens for the higher contrast

thx for the review i was excited when i seen it posted today, notebookcheck rocks

Could you please provide at least one use case when touchscreen are actually more effective, than... anything else?
IMO, reviewers are absolutely right, it couldn't be matte because of touchscreen, hence it isn't useful.

I don't understand why the reviewer implies that the touchscreen is a bad thing.

The touchscreen most certainly provides a more protective, professional looking screen surface, if for nothing else.

Touchscreens are actually very useful, despite them not being used for high end games.

But especially with universal apps coming, across full-size computers, tablets, and phones, it is particularly nice to have a touchscreen to play some of the universal app games. Sheesh.

Black, stylish, fast. HP launches a very compact and thin 15.6-inch gaming notebook with the Omen, which has a very good design and attracts gamers with powerful core components. The price of 1,600 Euros comes with high expectations for the ergonomics and the performance, but not all of them can be fulfilled.
