For what do you need consistent security updates if I may ask? If it's workplace that has such strict / high requirements - then they really should be providing you a device on their behalf and paying for it.
As for Google, they just care about saving money that's all. And know not going Snapdragon will cost them 1/3rd to possibly 1/4th the total SoC cost. They also know that they have more money than most of these other companies and competitors combined so they can just outspend them in r&d and in long run eventually build something superior.
Honestly don't think Google is interested at all in raw performance or benchmarks. Pretty sure if it was the goal they'd of built something competitive by now. Seems theyre most interested only in features that help using their AI Cloud services or improving their machine learning photography algorithms.
