The issue they had was AMD used an internal kernel api which they were not suppose to use. Because of that, when the api changed syntax, it broke it. And based on AMD's policy, they declined to fix it because they didn't support unsupported kernel versions. So it has been broken since 6.10 for months. Only with latest release they added support for 6.11 so it started working. But it was quite an easy thing to fix on their end that didn't need waiting so long.
And yes, someone could have made the fixes themselves and recompiled it themselves, but not everyone wants to go compiling 26gb of rocm.
