Why would anyone choose Intel over AMD when the latter is better value in every possible regard?

Quote from: GeorgeS on November 27, 2024, 22:15:32How many (for the sake of argument) actually make use of MULTIPLE GPU cards in a single system?
About everyone who has iGPU + dGPU, so approximately 70% of PC users? And if they want to take their work to the next level, and they need more GPU power, they go for multiple GPUs; you can argue about many things but you can't really claim that video editors, 3D and animation artists, and such, basically anyone related to those previously mentioned apps, do not exist. On that note, I currently have Affinity Photo 2 open and it is simultaneously using both my UHD Graphics + RTX 4000 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't have a desktop so I can't slot another GPU inside (but I can use an eGPU, no need for that yet with 12 GB VRAM).

Depends about what they do? If they need Intel QuickSync for Adobe Premiere Pro then no, they wouldn't. Intel is untouchable in that aspect.

Really? Take a look, although here is Intel + GeForce, and I said Intel + Radeon instead of one singular GeForce simply to save some money and get actually more raw performance (and more VRAM) by going Intel + AMD with GPUs; there, the vid follows, featuring Threadripper 7970X + Arc A380 + GeForce 4080S: "I SWITCHED to AMD - NEW ULTIMATE Creator WORKSTATION feat. Threadripper 7970x & Lian Li SUP-01"

He explains great benefits of Intel QuickSync (which you get with Intel, obviously), starting at 18:42 in the vid.

Ryzen CPU + Intel GPU (for QuickSync) + Radeon GPU, all of that for more total VRAM, more overall raw performance and less money than what you get with comparable Nvidia GPU. Extremely useful for Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve, After Effects, Cinema4D, Maya, and Blender for example.

As per the launch of the 1st Arc cards, so late to the market and positioned against the RTX 3000 series right before the 4000 series came out - big whoop, your Arc card that is supposed to be as good as a 3070 is in fact more like a cheap 4060. We're bound to see the same thing again, Intel's 4060 competitor is really going to be a 5050 rather than a 5060.

Given that AMD has a number of offerings that compete WELL with Nvidia's 4060, I really don't see the point of the Intel product.

The launch of the Intel Arc B580 is imminent, and one retailer has already revealed how much the limited edition will cost. The next generation mid-range graphics card will be significantly more expensive than its direct predecessor, but will still compete with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060.
