I want to point out and warn potential buyers that this laptop randomly comes with either the IPS screen (mentioned in this review) or a very poor quality TN-panel. I already received two different type numbers of this laptop the last few days (dm535t & dm665t) both of which had the TN-panel, without the seller knowing this.
Apparently it is (even) possible that the screens are different within the same type number, as ASUS told me they can only tell which panel a certain laptop has by checking the serial number (so you won't know until you have the laptop in your hands).
This is what Asus states on their site about the screen of the GL553VD (so without any typenumber, thus implying it applies to all the GL553VD-versions):
"BREATHTAKING VISUALS
ROG Strix GL553 features a 15.6-inch Full HD panel with wide-view angles. The panel ensures great contrast and color consistency, and there's no color shift even when you're viewing it from extreme positions. It has a matte finish too, so there's no glare or reflections to distract you during gaming."
And this is the specific TN-panel that they - randomly, it seems - put in this laptop:

I can fully confirm the poor qualitiy of the TN-panel on the two GL553VD's I recently received (and returned of course): no viewing angle whatsoever, low brightness and contrast and colors way off. In fact, it's even poor by TN-panel standards....
I told Asus all this, but it became clear they really don't mind.
