This is assuming the dramatically larger die and substrate could even reasonably fit in a 7" handheld.

What is the thermal output at 30w between the two options? The closer to STAPM the harder those limits set in. So while in the laptop for the 370 pulls ahead here, if that was installed into the Ally with that tiny cooling solution we might not see any actual improvements due to thermal headroom.

Mostly nicely done article however ignores the fact that the '7' would be likely used rather then the top-of-the-line '9' series chip in a handheld.

Clearly hardware+driver optimization is in order to squeeze the most benefit out of the Zen 5 silicon as it is there is not enough improvement to justify an upgrade.

Granted we may see a 'domino effect' of OEM's upgrading to the new chip as soon as one of them does. :)

Have you measured an actual system wattage?
Those TDPs will give you different real power consumption on both CPUs because different schedulers are used.

Pointless upgrade unless the CPU part makes ps3/360 emulation better

The new ROG Ally X is the best Windows gaming handheld right now, but it still uses the familiar Zen 4-based Ryzen Z1 Extreme from AMD. How much performance gain could users expect if Asus had equipped it with one of the new Zen 5 processors instead? We analysed Zen 5's performance at various power levels used by the ROG Ally X.
