This design offers an additional easy to access M.2 slot for fast NVMe storage for motherboards with limited M.2 connectivity. The SSD attaches on the back of the video card and it is directly cooled by the rear GPU sink. Since the GPU only uses 8 out of 16 PCIe lanes, the SSD can access 4 of the unused lanes.
