Vertex Pharmaceuticals has issued a press release that could leave millions of people suffering from type 1 diabetes (T1D) with cautious optimism in regard to a cure. By using VX-880 stem-cell therapy in a long-term trial, three patients who had coped with diabetes for decades had "achieved insulin independence". The current study will last until 2028.
