Quote from: S.Yu on June 08, 2023, 18:33:17Sounds like it's on track to edge out the mobile 4080 then, with 4GB more VRAM and a slightly higher power envelope? Seems reasonable, as long as the price is right...

The 4080 at 150+25w does 19k easily.... This seems to be in between 4070 mobile and 4080 mobile, the 4080 mobile matches the 3080ti desktop while the 4090 mobile basically matches 3090ti desktop. This on the other hand basically matches a 3080 10g (4070 desktop matches 3080 10g). If this is the top sku AMD has for mobile, they definitely won't win any performance war. Not on the top end nor in the second tier.
This gets a bit confusing since I wasn't really keeping track of the desktop parts, but I was just taking a look at the mobile 4080 and at least they do make it an actually worthwhile(regardless of price) upgrade compared to the 3080 Ti, unlike 4070 against 3070 Ti. Anyhow I can wait till next year, since my favorite laptop model doesn't come with a 4080 tier...

What is your favorite laptop model?
Flow X16, the only hybrid with that kind of power(still, one tier short, especially intolerable at that price is the 8GB VRAM), and it's not underventilated like the XPS series, nor with a bad screen like all the Alienwares. Conversely you could call it the only high end gaming notebook that flips 360° and has a digitizer. And it looks very sophisticated, more so than the non-hybrid cousin Zephyrus M16(which instead has a useless LED cover that's dead weight), and slightly more refined than its predecessor. Last but not least, it's cheaper than Blade 16😀

Quote from: Oblivion on June 12, 2023, 09:38:01The laptop hosting the RX 7800M being cheaper than those from NVIDIA, and it getting more FPS than NVIDIA, that's all I need...Cheaper price better FPS...the rest is rest...it's like last gen RX6800M performance as good as RTX 3070, but more cheaper it's price X FPS
Good for you, but I need a screen, build, design, the overall package that matches the price tag, a few hundred bucks cheaper isn't much at the flagship tier.

Compare it to the last gen 6850m xt, then u would know how good the efficiency is. 6850m xt was doing desktop 3070 ish performance at 165w already, this doing 3080 10g tier performance with 165w doesn't seem like a huge increase does it? It's like a 20% gen on gen increase which is quite small tbh. Look at 3080 mobile vs 4080 mobile, much better jump tbh.

Don't compare performance tiers but actual numbers! Going from ~12000 points in time spy graphics to around 17500 at the same wattage is almost a 50 % increase. Compare this to navi 31 % 33 who had almost no perf/watt increase at all.

Sigh. 6 months late and still behind at everything, all it can potentially offer is maybe cheaper prices, but since AMD just does not care about laptops, it won't, and will be near impossible to find anyway.

Quote from: Eric on June 08, 2023, 22:00:12Kinda feels like one of those "too good to be true" situations.

Every mobile gaming GPU I've ever had was, at best, only almost as powerful as it's previous generation's counterpart.

How is it even possible for a mobile GPU to even compete with current gen desktop? If those numbers are real, it would be an unprecedented advancement.

You are forgetting 4070 desktop on matches 3080 10G from last gen, so this is basically only matching a 80 class GPU from last gen (12g was fast than 10g too!)
