A real shame! At one point, with duraforce, then duraforce pro and pro2 offered VERY well-rounded and truly rugged mobile solutions (with a few drawbacks), much superior to the Chinese 'rugged' alternatives. That said, a few years ago they 'lost the plot', and this 5G handset was the nail in the coffin, a VERY poorly designe yet VERY expensive device. Plus, they baked in all the (...) 'partner' junk apps which can't be uninstalled, and locked the handsets so they can't be rooted. This made them effectively obsolete after a couple of years, as you can't update OS, or even install security packages. Therefore, you can't install everyday banking (and other) apps which are essential in 2023. Great hardware, wasted potential :(
Kyocera is an OEM that offers rugged, occasionally sapphire-reinforced, smartphones to retail customers - or, rather, it did. The company has decided to quit sales to consumers as of May 2023, having posted a multi-million-dollar loss in its last financial performance report. Its devices may still be available to enterprise buyers, however.
