Qualcomm touts its new Compact Macro 5G RAN Platform as a way to boost uptake of mmWave 5G, which may be held back at present by the costs involved in establishing a network based on that type of mobile data, not the least is the risk of needing a high concentration of base stations to cover a given area. The new platform is rated to reduce them "significantly" with an increase in range of over 200% compared to its predecessor.
