SO you are buying an AMD chip expecting to throw it in the trash when a better chip is available? Intel chips get to use less expensive boards and memory. In general most people who buy computers aren't interested in upgrading.

If you need a computer now and your workload benefits form multicores, buy Intel. If you hate money and can't wait for amd zen 4 3d then buy AMD.

Personally if you are buying a zen 4 chip you might need professional help. Wait for the zen 4 3d, the boards will be cheaper by then and ddr5 might be little cheaper too.

So for future upgrades, raptor lake is a dead end whereas AMD has a future. Yes motherboards are expensive, but really, you only need to buy one, if AMD's history has anything to show for the future.

The prices mentioned in the article for Intel chips are not true at all and very misleading for the readers. The mentioned prices are for retailers who would buy in bulk.

We must not forget one more sad fact for AMD that motherboards comparable in level / class are much more expensive than for Intel. At least that's how it used to be. As a result, the "cheapness" of AMD processors was more than offset by the high cost of motherboards similar in class, with approximately the same set of capabilities. If before Intel lost, then what will AMD cover now? In laptops, at least AMD has an obvious plus - better autonomy, but in desktops, few people care about consumption.

On the other hand, the real prices around the world have nothing to do with the recommended ones, and it may well turn out that AMD at the processor level will come out even cheaper. But here is the processor + motherboard set, most likely it will again be in favor of Intel anyway.

But the fact that the entire industry has fallen into a vicious circle with ever-increasing consumption, which is especially noticeable in the mobile segment, clearly indicates to experts that the industry is in a technological impasse and cannot significantly increase performance without increasing consumption. Real progress, on the other hand, only makes sense if performance increases with the same or less consumption. I hope this should be clear to everyone...
