Ditto. Even if it really goes beyond the power of the PSU you have the battery. Definitely seems intentional, provided the 40W actually went somewhere.

Apple offers the MacBook Pro 14 with the faster M1 Max SoCs, but the power adapter will be a limiting factor when you stress the CPU & GPU at the same time. This means the larger MacBook Pro 16 is a better choice if you want to use the full performance of the M1 Max.
