Apple has often asserted that it values its subscriptions (its Music arm, for example) as much as its hardware as contributors to the success of its overall business in the past. Now, according to a knowledgeable correspondent, it intends to convert whole iPhones into another kind of subscription. It is not clear how this rumored strategy will work as yet, although the OEM does have models from other manufacturers to follow.
