The funny thing is that people have to pay a thousand dollars just to use these ad machines. There is no personal computing anymore, even the Linux foundation is owned by MS.
I can assure you Linux is not influenced by Microsoft in anyway, not while Linus Torvalds is around, he hates them with a passion. They do contribute code, and do have a seat in the board as does anyone who pays the required fees, but thats the Linux Foundation and not the Linux Kernel. The Kernel is and will remain open source so long as a single developer is around, that is the power of distributed systems and a good part of why Linux is consistent in its success. I have the kernel code with me as does every dev, Microsoft can't do s*** about it. Even if they manage to corrupt the Foundation they cannot corrupt the kernel I'm running or that I compile, that is true for me as is for every single developer involved. Just look what happened to CentOS, they corrupted it and before you knew there was, and is, a bunch of different groups keeping it going under different names. And it wasn't even that disrupted what they did anyway, but was a good drill for such a situation in the community, and the result was a massive success.
