Do not forget that having just different binning does not help acquiring the light, it mostly helps denoising, colors and shutter speed will not increase if the tech is the same, as opposed to usage of ryyb or other on sensor improvement as seen in xperias that reach the fastest shutter speeds.
It will be way better but not compared to mate30pro.
Ultimately this sensor is larger, and that should bring most of the performance improvements, unless something turns out seriously wrong with their processing, which can't be completely ruled out yet.
The 4-1 bin HMX's 27MP output, downsampled to 12MP, could be more or less on the same level as this sensor, unless they make full use of this new binning method and use 3 different readout speeds for each group of 9 photosites, or something. Merely binning on the sensor level yields poor results, a full readout with intelligent downsampling occurring in the ISP maximizes utilization of the data, but that taxes the ISP to a far greater extent, of course.
