Asus design was not bad. But in recent years, they have been beaten by Acer. Acer's design has becoming powerful even in low cost segment. The best thing Acer did was to give a possible  RAM expansion for future upgrade. The CPU installed was also generously better than Asus.

For example Asus's RAM 2GB embedded in most netbooks where Acer gave better deal by having addiional slot on top of the 2GB embedded which simply can be upgrade to 8GB.
USers can upgrade the RAM at anytime when they experiencing unsmooth workflows while using the nets. By having 2GB alone will give you limited personal upgrade. I vote for Acer.
