The Pavilion series isn't exactly home to HP's best laptops and yet the Pavilion Gaming 17 is one of the better gaming laptops we've seen from the manufacturer thus far. The system is surprisingly quiet and even sleek considering its price range.

Who cares that it is quite when it reaches 49C? They should have made it louder if it meant lower temperatures.

Because you know what is the quietest gaming laptop? A dead one!

Don't be daft. This machine is whisper quiet -and- has incredible temps.

@AllenNgo : LaptopMedia posted a similarly glowing review on the HP Omen 17 w/ i7-9750h & RTX 2070 (Laptop). They mentioned great temps and low fan noise.
Looks like HP might be onto a winner this gen. I suppose their late release means they've had time to custom build machines to suit the new hardware.
Really hope NBC gets an Omen 17 soon!

Looks like a great laptops besides the acid green keyboard color.
That just ruins it for me, yeah it maybe nitpicking but a deal breaker for me, can't be seen in meetings with this.

There are also units with white keyboard backlit and white HP Logo available.

congrats hp, step in the right direction. especially for you.
still shitty on my taste, but this time im not mad. :)
it's a pity you didn't test the 9300h cpu version. i suppose it looks even better.

It's important to note that the 1660ti (Laptop) is a 80 watt GPU, and in all of those tests it doesn't go over 55 watt. That's a substancial power limit, and honestly that's the only reason why it's so "cool". It's only running at 105w all together at maximum, assuming the CPU isn't throttling down, so it doesn't need to really cool much of anything. "Compared to the faster RTX 2000 GPUs (e.g. RTX 2060), the 1660Ti integrates no Raytracing or Tensor cores. The performance is similar to the old GTX 1070 (Max-Q) but at a reduced TGP of 60 Watt (versus 80 of the laptop version 115 Watt of the desktop version)."

"We're not able to notice any coil whine or electronic noise from our test unit."

Well, you maybe not, but I am. Fan on the right side is whistling and rattling!

I have one of these, and I see two serious issues:
- WiFi range and drivers are terrible. The laptop sometimes forgets it has 5GHz support - all 5GHz networks just disappear from the menu for some time. If that does not happen, the reception is worse than on any other device I have. I had to but a WiFi repeater because of this laptop, it's the only device I have that loses reception in some parts of my 50-meter apartment.
- Bluetooth is useless. The range is so low I can't use wireless headphones even when sitting in front of the screen, the audio stutters. 5 meters away from the computer and the connection breaks completely. Again, I tried those headphones (and one BT speaker) with my other devices and all of them have much better range.

Sure, it doesn't have the refresh rate for competitive gaming, but it can handle CPU, GPU , and disk load like its nothing, the Samsung SSD is one of the fastest I've ever seen.
