Review Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Lite Tablet

Redundant successor? Samsung launched an entry-level tablet on the market that did not really convince us in several fields with its Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. Now, 7 months later, we have our hands on the Lite version - is it a sensible diet or simply nip/tuck madness?

Thanks for your honesty. I am not sure what I would want to use a tablet for but the price of $159 sounds reasonable to get a start on a tablet to see what one can do. I know I would want it for email and a Google-like search engine. The GPS would be good if I didn't need to be connected to the internet on the road. A word processor would be very useful. I don't know what else I would need while traveling on the road.

To be fair it's cheap but to be honest it's nasty. I use it to run mapping such as Google maps & Osmand in the car & it struggles to keep up & the screen is just terrible. Somthing of a let down really.

I'm posting this comment using this Samsung Tab 3 Lite (SM-T110). I was originally using a Nexus 7 2013. My brother-in-law gave this Samsung tablet which he got as part of his network subscriptuion plan to my wife. My wife then gave it to me. I guess they both didn't want it. Having a Nexus tablet already, which is actually pretty good except for the absence of a microSD slot, a cranky touch screen which seems to plague the model (and Google and Asus don't want to admit the design defect), and flimsy build quality, I kinda smirked at this Samsung tablet. Being used to the Nexus's fast performance, terrific display, and slim profile, I found this Samsung tablet simply aweful, so I just placed it back in its box and put it away. Perhaps I can pass it on to somebody else too. LOL.

Then I accidentally broke my Nexus's display. Repair costs were expensive, which in my country is about as much as it costs to buy a new Nexus already. Obviously it just made no sense to have the screen fixed. I then shopped around for a new tablet and found the Lenovo Tab A7 (A3500-HV) selling for $120. Cheap tablet, and reviews seemed OK, but I'm not exactly riding high right now and I don't want to spend money on a new tablet and I suppose I could live with the Samsung. And so I am using it now.

I admit performance is just bad: the two Cortex A9 cores simply feel too overwhelmed, and the dark horse Vivante graphics isn't pushing pixels anywhere as quickly as my Nexus. The display is awful too. But hey, beggars can't be choosers, can they? Besides, I got it for free and I'm the kind of guy who can appreciate cheaper products even if they aren't very good. Unfortunately, not everyone can get this for $0.00 and appreciate cheap stuff. For the lower price of $120, I think the Lenovo Tab A7 has better specs and functionality (the A3500-HV includes phone call functionality so it's a 'phablet').
