A leaker of all things Sony has offered a few insights into the state of its consumer audio division. Allegedly, the company is not planning to deliver WH-1000XM5 or WF-1000XM5 successors this year. While the WF-1000XM6 and WH-1000XM6 may be far off from being released, Sony is said to be planning second-generation LinkBuds and LinkBuds S models in the meantime.

The problem with the XM5s is that they don't support Bluetooth LE Audio/Auracast.

One would be a fool to purchase an expensive headset nowadays that doesn't support this new protocol which is going to become ubiquitous as far as wireless audio connectivity goes in the coming years.

..not really.
The problem with the XM5 is that it isn't actually an improvement from the XM4 for many people.
Less portable without folding earpieces and an annoying dynamic implementation of ANC which can't be customised...meanwhile being more expensive than before.

No wonder they continue selling the XM4 and don't quite know where to turn next.

Until they fix battery issues its a pass. Xm4 and xm5 are dead electronics after a year.

My XM3s are 6 years old and XM4s 4 years old, both with battery life basically as-new.

Eventually it'll be a DIY replacement in around 30 minutes, no soldering required.

No issue with my XM4 either...
Best buy for traveling (air, train, etc.) and can't see any reason to "upgrade" (downgrade IMHO).
