All smartphones are bad (therefore, I have never had any). Within this reality, individual Apple smartphone models are the most popular. This can only partially be explained by Apple being the monopolist on iOS smartphones and having not too many different models because Apple's high average sales price gives Android smartphone manufacturers the chance to offer a low price model with long support and high quality for the price without offering other self-competing individual models. Among those Android smartphone manufacturers with only one or a few models, all fail to do so. They fail to offer 15 years of OS and battery support, bloatware-free, all LTE bands and good build quality for the price. Instead, almost all copy the mistakes of iPhones: data theft, destroyed display, too narrow display, ever-growing display sizes, missing / weak repairability. Apple gives them very good chances to offer better smartphones but they all fail. Some of them even cheat, like Samsung using bad chips for the European market.
iOS or Android better? Both are terrible in comparison to Windows and Linux, except for basic smartphone capabilities! Android is more popular than iOS but this may be simply because there are also low end to mid price range Androids.
