Dynabook launched two laptops today. The Portégé X30W-J and Portégé X30L-J are Tiger Lake laptops with Intel's Iris Xe Graphics. Both laptops weigh less than one kilogram (2.2. pounds) and are equipped with two Thunderbolt 4 ports.

This looks promising. I like the size/weight, design, and ports, not to mention the 2-in-1 capability, and the keyboard looks decent, though not great. The page up/down keys next to the shift key seems like a good idea, but I really wish manufacturers would stop it with the half-height arrow key nonsense, and I really wish they would start implementing pointing sticks (Trackpoints). Of course, we'll have to see how battery life, thermals, noise, etc are, and if they kill it with any stupid design decisions like a low-brightness or PWM screen. I also don't know anything about Dynabook, other than they're apparently the new Chinese-owned Toshiba & Sharp, both of which were good companies before being bought out, but I'm pretty sure I've read they're not so good now.

I just noticed from reading another article about these that the clamshell version, but not the convertible, comes with a trackpoint. Seems like a rather big detail to miss. I really find it frustrating how all the manufacturers are determined to make consumers choose between features when there's no good reason to not allow them together, such as HP requiring an i7 to get 16GB RAM and now this. If they would just put the trackpoint on the 2-in-1, unless there's a serious issue with it I would absolutely buy it. But instead it's probably just going to blend in with all the other options.
